The Assistant Chief Engineer role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our buildings, maintaining the integrity and value of physical assets. This position combines field supervision, inspection of work, and office administrative duties, requiring initiative, technical expertise, and personal accountability in a high‑risk critical environment.
Key responsibilities include managing operational accounts and budgets, overseeing building systems such as fire/life safety, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical, analyzing energy usage, and maintaining a preventive maintenance program. The role also involves project management duties, coordinating with contractors and tenants, preparing reports and as‑built drawings, and leading a team of maintenance staff and third‑party vendors.
General duties require strict adherence to safety standards, OSHA and health codes, emergency response, vendor compliance, and accurate documentation. The position operates on an on‑call rotation, requires a valid Texas driver’s license and insured vehicle for travel between properties, and expects participation in industry organizations for ongoing skill development.
Candidates must have at least five years of commercial building operations experience, two years of trade schooling in electrical or HVAC systems, and relevant licenses or certifications such as an electrical license, HVAC license, Boiler Operator Certificate, and EPA 608. Additional qualifications include an associate degree or equivalent, proficiency with Microsoft Office, the ability to lift 50 lb, and the physical capability to work in various weather conditions.
