Serves as alternate Rough Terrain Container Handler (RTCH) operator as instructed for loading and unloading equipment.
The rail operation crew operates on the Fort Sill Installation as well as travels to remote sites in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Colorado and Texas.
Operates handbrakes before detaching cars from locomotive.
Relays signals for train movement by use of hand signals, lanterns, flags, and voice.
Ensures safety rules are observed as outlined in the General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR).
Line switches to shuttle rail cars and locomotives onto different tracks.
Checks car numbers to ensure movement of specific cars.
Mounts railroad car and set brakes and places blocks or chocks against wheels.
Performs preventive maintenance on track switches and grade crossings as required, for example the cleaning of leaves and other debris from switch points, oiling and greasing of switches and removing dirt and gravel from grade crossings.
Performs organizational maintenance on locomotives as directed.
Instructs and inspects personnel on SDDC TEA MI 55-19, Tiedown Instructions for Rail Movements.
Checks to see that cars are properly sealed or that seals are unbroken.
Assists in making emergency repairs to brake equipment on locomotive and railcars.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
Stops motor traffic when train is crossing roads or highways.
The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
Couples or uncouples cars by means of standard car couplings such as cables, links and pins, hooks and chains.

Will be required to work an unusual tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Must be able to complete online Container Inspection for Commercial and Military Intermodal Containers, MIL HDBK 138A.
Must be able to obtain Forklift license for all equipment (4K to 50K)
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
High School graduate or equivalent.
Attendance and award of 88U military occupational specialty
Valid driver’s license.
Must be able to pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) for computer access.
Ability to receive a favorable TIER-1 Investigation results, obtain and maintain a CAC.
Minimum of two (2) years commercial railroad experience, or a minimum of three (3) years government rail crew experience is desirable.
Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
