The Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) Estimator will be responsible for estimating and pre‑construction services, including preparing estimates, reviewing documents, managing costs, performing value‑engineering analysis, and handling bid solicitation and evaluation. The role involves participation in design meetings, communication with subcontractors, procurement of equipment, and maintaining professional and technical knowledge.
- Prepare take‑offs and estimates for all MEP phases, from conceptual to final construction documents
- Develop and maintain KA‑specific MEP pricing templates, worksheets, and databases
- Support development of value‑engineering alternatives
- Prepare estimate documentation for project team and executive review
- Participate in design meetings
- Resolve cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
- Communicate with and solicit appropriate subcontractors for projects
- Identify and solicit subcontractors based on project needs
- Evaluate and solicit bids from various subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
- Lead procurement and direct purchase of mechanical and electrical equipment and gear
- Set up project estimates in KA estimating software
- Attend owner/client interviews
- Maintain and grow professional and technical knowledge
- Participate in industry associations
- Capture and enter historical cost data into KA cost modeling software
- Maintain compliance with company policies and quality standards
- Stand or sit in a stationary position for extended periods (50%+ time)
- Navigate between office floors and attend occasional off‑site meetings

Candidates must have at least eight years of mechanical estimating experience, strong ability to interpret scope narratives and preliminary designs, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and pre‑construction software. The position also requires the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, maintain a positive attitude, and uphold the company’s policies and values.
A bachelor's degree in a related field, mechanical or electrical design experience, and familiarity with estimating software such as On‑Screen Takeoff, WinEst, or Modelogix are preferred. The role requires a valid driver’s license, satisfactory motor vehicle record, and up to 10 % travel.
The position entails physical demands such as extended periods of standing or sitting, computer work in an office environment, occasional off‑site meetings, and the ability to lift up to 25 lb unassisted.
