The Unit Manager supervises staff assigned to the unit and oversees the unit program. They perform liaison functions throughout the facility by attending a variety of administrative meetings, linking the unit to the total facility operation. This individual ensures the unit is fully staffed and oversees how manpower resources are expended. They also monitor and assess the unit's progress, emphasizing remediation of any deficiencies.
Direct supervision includes evaluating staff performance as prescribed by facility and corporate policy, recruiting, hiring, and orienting assigned staff, and communicating responsibilities, authorities, and accountability to subordinates. The manager completes written evaluations for all directly supervised staff and approves evaluations from subordinate managers. Routine review of payroll records and overtime usage is also required.
Qualifications include a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and three years of criminal‑justice experience with at least two years in a supervisory role or as a CoreCivic Case Manager or Correctional Counselor. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis, and prior experience on a CoreCivic Way unit management team can also satisfy requirements. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of correctional facility management, supervision, training, and relevant laws and regulations, hold a valid driver’s license, and be at least 18 years old.
