The hands‑on Chief Engineer will oversee maintenance and operation of all building systems, develop comprehensive maintenance plans, ensure site safety, and maintain crucial documentation. Responsibilities include efficient work scheduling using a CMMS, administering the JLL Client Assurance Program, managing major projects, and collaborating on financial targets.
Essential functions include demonstrating technical expertise in HVAC, pipe‑fitting, plumbing, and electrical work, maintaining regular attendance, serving as a role model for the team, making justified business decisions, and ensuring SOPs for critical infrastructure are understood. The Chief Engineer must be on‑call 24 hours a day, work in all weather conditions, and be able to reach the site within roughly 45 minutes for emergencies.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities cover proficiency with Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel), effective use of a CMMS (Corrigo is a plus), strong internal and external customer service, basic finance/budget knowledge, clear verbal and written communication, and the ability to teach by doing. Experience in critical facilities, lab, or higher‑education environments is recommended.
Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds (occasionally up to 100 pounds), climbing ladders up to 30 ft, and exposure to mechanical parts, wet conditions, high places, fumes, electrical hazards, noise, and extreme temperatures. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Supervisory responsibilities involve strong people‑management and team‑leading skills, training and mentoring maintenance staff, and supporting personal development alongside the Facility Manager. The working environment may change based on work orders, site workloads, and other factors.
Qualifications include an associate degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience, at least five years of facility‑related work (including customer service, leadership, and supervision), and certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs. Visa sponsorship is not provided; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
The Chief Engineer position in Nashville, TN offers an hourly range of $45.67‑$50.48, a Monday‑Friday schedule of 7:00‑3:30/4:00, and occasional weekend work. This role may require overtime, on‑call duty, and travel between sites.
