Archaeology Field Technician II

Description

• Enhance the world around you - from the environment to the highways, to the buildings and the terrain, WSP is the fabric of Canada.
• Work outdoors in a wide variety of weather and ground conditions.
• Complete archaeological fieldwork under the supervision of an experienced Field Supervisor, including Stage 2 surveys (field walking and test pitting); Stage 3 site-specific assessments; and Stage 4 mitigations.
• Assist in the collection and maintenance of detailed field notes, as required.
• Where necessary work independently, connecting with Field Supervisors as required for clarity and direction.
• Assist with surveying and grid set-up, as required.
• Maintain a high standard of ethical and professional behavior and demonstrate a “Safety First” focus and act as a role model to other staff.
• Participate in a team environment providing support to other field technicians (including with guidance and mentorship) and assisting with field activities, as required.
• Support Field Supervisors and provide assistance where needed.

Requirements

• A valid Ontario driver’s license and clean drivers abstract. Reliable transportation to-&-from designated WSP E&I Canada Limited project site or office meet spot is essential.
• Ability to travel and work on out-of-town projects (hotel stays), as required.
• Ability to work daily at field site locations. You enjoy fieldwork and like to work in a team environment!
• At least three (3) field seasons of archaeological experience in Ontario, including shovel testing and test unit excavation, is a requirement.
• Ability to work well as part of a team, or independently when required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field considered an asset.
• Willingness and ability to perform physical demanding and repetitive movement tasks: (e.g., hand shoveling, troweling, screening soil/earth), work outdoors for long days in rough terrain, harsh elements (hot & cold temperatures) and remote locations; must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate information, questions, concerns related to the site work to Field Supervisor in a professional and timely manner.
• Knowledge of archaeological artifacts.
