Description

The estimator will perform conceptual estimating from napkin sketches or design narratives, progress through schematic design to construction‑document level quantification, and develop GMP packages for mechanical scopes including HVAC, process piping, plumbing, fire protection, and controls. They will interact with trade partners across multiple DPR offices, manage design‑build or design‑assist subcontractors, and coordinate with key equipment suppliers and vendors.

Key duties include preparing and analyzing long‑lead equipment procurement, presenting estimates and budgets to owners and consultants, scoping and preparing mechanical bid packages, and collaborating with DPR’s self‑perform groups such as the electrical team, prefabrication, and design‑management. The estimator will also develop cost and schedule reduction analyses, support other Southeast offices (with less than 20 % travel), and conduct constructability reviews of mechanical scopes.

Requirements

DPR Construction is seeking a Mechanical Estimator with at least five years of experience estimating technical commercial construction projects. The role focuses on core markets such as healthcare, higher education, advanced technology, life science, and commercial construction, and involves close collaboration with the local leadership team, the Southeast regional MEP preconstruction group, and the broader estimating team.

Ideal candidates are flexible, detail‑oriented team players who can manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines. Required qualifications include excellent listening and communication skills, the ability to resolve complex technical issues, proficiency with Microsoft Office, WinEst, BlueBeam, and Onscreen Takeoff, and 5+ years of estimating experience in DPR’s core markets. Process‑piping experience is desirable, and a strong work ethic with a solution‑oriented attitude is essential.
