Finance Assurance Consultant

Description

The Finance Assurance Consultant will support end‑to‑end delivery of cost and commercial assurance services for large infrastructure programmes across the UK and internationally. The role involves managing finance systems, analysing data, verifying costs, and presenting findings to enable clients to make informed business decisions.

Based in a regional office such as London, Bristol or Birmingham, the consultant will work with the UK Commercial Assurance Team, travel to project sites as needed, and adapt quickly to varying client requirements, including remote work.

• Manage finance systems (including SAP), purchase orders, goods receipt, project creation, budget maintenance, forecasting, vendor management, aged debt reporting, and invoice handling.
• Evaluate cost data and structures against contractual and commercial principles.
• Analyze cost data to identify patterns, trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Appraise cost capture and commercial management processes.
• Conduct detailed cost verification, payroll audits, and data sampling.
• Identify and implement process improvements for cost controls and commercial governance.
• Collaborate with project and finance staff to verify costs and obtain key documentation.
• Manage stakeholder expectations through regular communication.
• Support production of project close‑out reports.
• Present findings and recommendations to clients and their supply chains.
• Lead site engagements nationally and internationally.
• Mentor junior staff and upskill internal and external stakeholders in cost and commercial assurance.
• Deliver service excellence to clients with strong verbal and written communication.
• Extract, interrogate, and assess large data sets to inform decision‑making.

Requirements

Applicants should demonstrate experience in cost and commercial assurance, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously in a fast‑paced setting. • Experience in cost and commercial assurance/audit activities and contract interpretation.
• Proficient in analysing high‑volume Excel data and using cost/finance systems such as SAP.
• Strong report writing and presentation abilities.
• Work autonomously in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to delivery challenges.
• Maintain professional competence, strong interpersonal skills, and client relationships.
• Desirable knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, particularly PSC and ECC.
• Relevant degree qualification; professional memberships advantageous.
• Ability to obtain required security clearance.
