The role's primary geographic focus will be on established and new schemes in the north region, supporting densification of schemes and ensuring contract and regulatory compliance with a requirement to support the wider commercial portfolio as necessary.
The role will also manage other stakeholder relationships, including those with client representatives; operational teams; business development teams; finance and other colleagues who provide functional support to the contracts (e.g. legal and billing team).
The Senior Commercial Manager will work with the Concession Director and the operational and functional teams supporting Commercial activity to provide an influential pre and post contract commercial management service.
The Senior Commercial Manager will administer new connection and supply agreement based on concession templates, as well as other third party agreements, and require a degree of face to face negotiations with internal and external customers to complete those agreements and support post-contract disputes.
- Monthly risk & opportunities reporting.
- Identifying, monitoring, valuing, and reporting on risks.
- Supporting the management and mitigation of risks at all levels (operational, commercial, technical, etc)
- Managing the compliance with the business governance process
- Ensuring policies and contract requirements are being complied with
- Repository for confidential / commercially sensitive information
- Contract negotiations with clients and other third parties to reach financial close with business development teams, with support from legal team and other colleagues.
- Management of variations / change control
- Aiding the quality of service by ensuring awareness of contractual responsibilities among colleagues (including contract deliverables, scope of services etc.)
- Assisting in the search for efficiencies and service optimisation
- Negotiating, on an equitable basis, internally and externally to ensure that the business is not exposed to unacceptable risks.
- Enforcing commercial compliance (by audit and support against commercial requirements / expectations)
- Taking a key role in the management and negotiation of new contracts and contractual claims / disputes with clients and other third-parties
- Dealing with clients directly to identify and resolve variations from the contract deliverables.

The ability to interpret contract wording and convey the key messages to colleagues and customers is a key feature. The Senior Commercial Manager should have a collaborative approach and be able to achieve results through achieving consensus within contract terms and in customer relationships.
