Design Engineers deliver civil engineering services—including planning, design, specifications, reporting, construction observation, and project management—while supervising CADD technicians, graduate engineers, and field technicians. They maintain regular communication with supervisors, attend internal and client meetings, and support business development through proposal preparation and interview participation. The role may evolve into Project Manager or Client Manager duties, encompassing budget and financial oversight, and requires public‑facing communication and on‑site representation during construction.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, with a preferred MN or ND Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain one within 6‑12 months. At least five years of highway/roadway design experience, knowledge of state DOT processes, and proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation Connect are highly valued; experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D and municipal utility design is a plus. Strong written and verbal communication, detail orientation, self‑motivation, and proficiency with Microsoft Office are required, along with a valid driver’s license.
The position involves occasional travel, overtime during construction season, and physical activities such as standing, walking and lifting up to 50 lb.
