Cable System Design Engineer

Description

• Deliver full‑lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility studies to commissioning.
• Review complex HV cable system designs, covering route development, burial risk assessments, and thermal, electromagnetic, and mechanical calculations.
• Perform cable rating and system studies, including ampacity, short‑circuit forces, thermal stability, and EMI analysis.
• Conduct cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, substation, and OHL teams to ensure integrated solutions.
• Support third‑party inspections and FAT/SAT, installation, and commissioning activities.
• Interface with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to verify compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, National Grid TPs, and other international standards.

Requirements

Ideal candidates have experience in cable system design engineering with FEED exposure, a solid understanding of on‑shore routing, pulling forces, burial risk assessments, and electromagnetic, thermal, and stability analyses. Familiarity with IEC, CIGRÉ, and National Grid TP standards, as well as proficiency in tools such as CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS, and mechanical simulation software, is expected. A minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is required, with Chartered Engineer status desirable.

• Experience in HV/EHV cable system design engineering, with a focus on FEED processes.
• Knowledge of on‑shore cable routing, mechanical forces, burial risk assessments, and protection strategies.
• Ability to execute electromagnetic, thermal, and stability analyses and design short‑circuit restraints.
• Familiarity with national and international standards such as IEC, CIGRÉ, and NG‑TPs.
• Experience with cable system ECI engineering, subsea control and electrical solutions, manufacturing/testing, and third‑party verification.
• Proficiency in CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS, and mechanical simulation tools.
• Minimum HNC qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field; Chartered Engineer status (or progress towards it) preferred.
