The intern will deliver bat emergence and re‑entry (BERS) surveys and prepare client reports, working closely with colleagues to uphold high standards of delivery, compliance and continuous improvement. This hands‑on, self‑starting role suits someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, takes ownership and solves problems.
Survey work will dominate the week, with 4‑5 dusk or occasional dawn BERS surveys required, meaning unsociable hours and flexible time management for admin tasks. Non‑survey duties include data analysis, report writing, mapping and project administration such as client communication and system updates.
Training opportunities include shadowing experienced ecologists on Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Roost Assessments and other protected‑species surveys, depending on BERS workload.
Travel to sites is necessary; interns must have reliable personal transport with mileage reimbursed at 45p per mile (plus 10p for rideshare). Work is allocated within a 2.5‑hour travel radius, though occasional longer trips and overnight stays are covered by the company.
Ideal candidates live in England or Wales, have the right to work in the UK, and can commit to the full internship period. Required skills include fluent English, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, strong organization, flexibility for last‑minute changes and willingness to work unsociable hours.
The Ecology Summer Intern position is a full‑time fixed‑term role within the Ecology department, based remotely and reporting to Mel Reid. The role offers a salary of £26,500 per year.
Joining Arbtech means being part of a collaborative team that values professionalism, integrity and growth, with access to group‑wide investment, shared expertise and career development as the organization expands.
Benefits include a pro‑rated salary of £26,500, 40 days of paid leave, comprehensive medical insurance, flexible working, a pension scheme and provision of equipment and tools needed for the role.
