RWE Clean Energy is hiring a full‑time, permanent Sr Site Suitability Engineer I to serve as the primary technical interface with wind turbine OEMs. The role supports on‑shore wind projects by delivering holistic technical assessments that help select the most competitive turbine technologies and conduct site suitability studies.
The engineer will manage site suitability and lifetime assessments, coordinate work packages with internal teams and external partners, and independently evaluate site conditions such as wind classification, turbulence, and extreme events. They will also pre‑select turbines, provide inputs for OEM reports, review mechanical load analyses, and perform terrain and performance test assessments.
Daily duties include site visits for turbine micrositing, collecting data from operating sites, sharing best practices, and mentoring junior staff while applying and enhancing in‑house standards and tools. The position requires occasional travel (typically less than 25 % of the time) both nationally and internationally.
- Conduct site suitability and lifetime assessments, including load, fatigue, and Wind Sector Management.
- Coordinate delivery of work package tasks with internal (Project Development, Engineering, Onshore Wind Technology Solutions) and external stakeholders (OEMs, certification bodies, consultants).
- Evaluate site conditions—wind classification, turbulence, extremes—to recommend competitive turbine technologies.
- Pre‑select suitable wind turbines and create shortlists for project sites.
- Provide inputs to OEMs for timely Site Suitability Reports and Mechanical Load Analyses; review received reports.
- Perform terrain and measurement sector assessments for power performance tests and review third‑party test reports.
- Conduct site visits and turbine micrositing with relevant stakeholders.
- Gather and disseminate best practices and lessons learned across projects.
- Apply and develop in‑house standards, tools, techniques, and processes; mentor junior colleagues.

- Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least five years of experience in site suitability assessment, preferably with a turbine OEM.
- Demonstrate knowledge of wind yield assessment, turbine loads, CFD software, Wasp, WindPRO, and Windographer.
- Possess strong oral and written English communication skills; programming in Python is desirable.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams.
- Understand international wind turbine regulations such as IEC 61400 series and DNV GL standards.
- Exhibit excellent organizational, leadership, problem‑solving, and teamwork abilities; willing to travel up to ~25 % domestically and internationally.
