We are seeking a Civil Project Designer for our Fairfax, VA office. In this role you will lead design efforts on low to moderate complexity civil engineering projects, act as project manager or lead engineer, and collaborate with senior staff on larger, high‑complexity assignments. You will work closely with engineers, consultants, and clients to deliver engineering solutions within budget and schedule constraints.
Key duties include directing and mentoring Civil Design Technicians, preparing grading and storm‑water designs for commercial, industrial, and residential sites, and using Civil 3D and other engineering software to produce detailed plans, specifications, and calculations. You will interact with clients to gather requirements, maintain relationships, and communicate technical information effectively. Additionally, you will conduct in‑process design reviews, ensure compliance with IMEG quality standards and regulatory criteria, and identify potential project problems for resolution.
The ideal candidate is proficient with industry‑standard software, especially Civil 3D, pipe networking, and road corridors, and possesses strong design‑technique skills. Excellent training, mentoring, communication, and interpersonal abilities are required, along with attention to detail, problem‑solving capabilities, and a willingness to adapt to new challenges. Proficiency in the MS Office suite and the ability to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight stays are also expected.
A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and a minimum of five years of experience in building‑design consulting are required, with six years preferred. Candidates with an associate degree or certification in Autodesk Civil 3D and nine to ten years of experience in the construction industry are also considered. This position does not offer visa sponsorship.
Compensation ranges from $71,000 to $89,000, dependent on experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
