The role is a primary managerial position within a specific project and shares responsibility for project successes. The incumbent is recognized for impacting revenue and growth while managing the firm’s resources—people, processes, and tools—with proficiency and aptitude. In addition, the leader teaches and mentors staff and consistently embodies the firm’s values and mission.
The manager acts as the primary client relationship for the project, building and strengthening connections through a comprehensive understanding of mission, goals, policies, needs, and progress. They oversee the execution and delivery of implementation documents across all phases, from programming and schematic design through construction administration and post‑occupancy evaluation, in collaboration with the Design Director, Project Architect, or Job Captain. Coordination of internal and external team interactions, oversight of product and material selection, and application of creative, innovative solutions are also key responsibilities.
Qualifications include an accredited degree in Interior Design, Architecture or a related field and typically eight or more years of professional experience. Preferred credentials are NCIDQ certification or an architectural license and sustainable design accreditation. Required technical proficiencies encompass advanced Bluebeam, intermediate Revit, Photoshop, InDesign, VR platforms, and basic knowledge of Rhino, Grasshopper, Dynamo, Illustrator, Navisworks and visualization tools, as well as competence in FF&E specification software, sustainability guidelines, building codes, and logistics management. Strong leadership, collaborative, presentation, organizational, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects, and travel when necessary.
