Gathers survey data using global positioning systems (GPS) and other surveying tools to map areas and measure angles, distances, and elevations.
Determines appropriate surveying techniques to be used on each project.
Completes any surveying tasks crew members are unable to complete.
Defines boundaries for property and rights of way.
Ensures the work of all crew members meets standards and that assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner.
Oversees the development and execution of construction, right-of-way, control, topographic, and/or other related survey duties.
Draft reports, descriptions, and other documentation for all surveys performed.
Ensures final maps display a comprehensive and accurate description of the field survey.
Analyzes plans, plats, and legal documents to appropriately plan and schedule work.
Collaborates with utility companies to ensure surveys are properly executed for public streets and easements.

Thorough understanding of and ability to execute proper field survey procedures and techniques.
Associate degree in surveying, Civil Technology, or similar field, plus four years of experience OR six years of qualified surveying experience required.
Thorough understanding of mathematical calculations used in field surveys and the ability to identify mistakes in calculations.
Excellent supervisory and organizational skills.
Ability to perform all aspects of field surveys.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
