This role ensures compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company safety requirements, and is instrumental in fostering a proactive safety culture across all assigned areas. Safety Professionals monitor and ensure compliance with safety and health standards; promotes and impacts a positive safety culture; supports the general safety and health effort and, performs field environmental compliance activities while maintaining responsibility for leading the administration of safety and environmental programs and providing direct support to field operations as needed.
- Support Program Administration including medical surveillance, facilitation of drug and alcohol plan, pre-employment requirements and DOT qualified driver files.
- Lead Public Safety School Programs; develop required outreach materials and effectively monitor third party requirements.
- Track and maintain records related to safely and environmental issues, including safety observations, safety accountability interviews, and hazard tracking and correction systems
- Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic business objectives
- Assist in the investigation/analysis of incidents and prepare reports and presentations
- Maintain knowledge of current NorthWestern Energy safety requirements and applicable government regulations (OSHA, DOT, etc.)
- Be actively involved in and provide expert opinions on the safety aspects of plans, procedures, practices, standards, specifications, and systems to achieve optimal control or reduction of hazards and exposures, which may harm people, property, and/or the environment
- Support management in deployment of existing safety products, and programs; develop approaches to address safety and environmental issues
- Actively monitor and process OSHA Recordkeeping activities and completion of required annual surveys; provide statically information as needed.
- Perform individual lifts and carries office supplies up to 25 pounds
- Identify ergonomic issues; recommend and implement ergonomic solutions; follow up to ensure effectiveness
- Represent the Company with presentations to the general public, contractors, and emergency responders regarding the potential hazards of electricity and natural gas
- Identify safety and environmental challenges and interact closely with employees at all levels to solve these issues
- Identify conditions and actions (through hazard evaluations and job safety analyses) that may cause injury, illness, or property damage; recommend corrective actions; track issues until resolved
- Ensure, through continuous worksite reviews and inspections, that workplace conditions comply with all applicable NorthWestern Energy safety requirements and government regulations
- Demonstrate and maintain an excellent safety record
- Develop effective safety training and safety meeting materials; facilitate delivery of this information to assigned areas to provide knowledge and skills necessary to recognize hazards and perform their jobs safely and effectively

Work Location: Butte MT prefered - Open to Montana and South Dakota service locations
Mid-to senior level safety position. Must have utility experience. Certification is required (CHST, CUSP, ASP, or CSP). A GSP designation does not fulfill this requirement. Bachelor's degree in safety or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered

Background Check: Required

- Commitment to safe working practices and knowledge of safety policies/procedures
- Proficient in recordkeeping and computer applications.
- Electric and natural gas utility experience preferred, but not required
- Certification in safety (CSP) or industrial hygiene (CIH) preferred; must be willing to obtain in the future if not currently possessed. (Attainment date will be dependent on safety career path and will be specified by hiring supervisor)
- First Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to acquire)

Safety Professional 1 - Starting Range: $ 55,600 - $83,400
Relocation Benefit: Negotiable
Safety Professional 3 - Starting Range: : $74,300 - $111,500
Safety Professional 2 - Starting Range : $64,800 - $97,200,
Pay range: $54,000 to $121,800 per year
