Senior Electrical Engineer

Description

Initially, the role will support the Hunter‑Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone (HCC REZ) project, which involves upgrading the existing electricity network and constructing two new substations to enable connections to multiple renewable energy sources. The project aims to deliver over 1 GW of renewable energy while minimizing community and environmental impact.

The engineer will provide onsite engineering services and technical support to ensure the programme of works is completed on time and within budget, including night‑shift and weekend work. Strong people skills are required for effective interaction with colleagues and stakeholders.

• Encourage the project’s vision, values, and behaviours.
• Coordinate and administer construction engineering activities to follow plans, designs, and specifications.
• Mentor and coach direct reports technically and operationally on site.
• Direct and supervise on‑site construction, conduct inspections, identify deviations, and initiate corrective actions.
• Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and project contributors.
• Champion health and safety compliance, conduct inspections, and address safety issues.
• Provide high‑level technical guidance, evaluate designs, and resolve complex engineering challenges.
• Produce detailed cost‑to‑complete forecasts and project reports.
• Contribute concise weekly and monthly project reports.
• Identify and assist with management of contract variations and scope changes.

Requirements

We are seeking an experienced Senior Power & Electrical Engineer to join our Rail Infrastructure team in Seven Hills. Reporting to the Rail Manager, the role supports both our Rail Infrastructure Services business and John Holland’s Major Projects.

Our projects are spread across the East Coast of Australia, so the successful candidate must be able to travel to support the portfolio of works.

• Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, construction, or equivalent.
• Minimum two years’ experience in rail power & electrical or high‑voltage energy sectors.
• Experience across the full project lifecycle; estimating experience is desirable.
• Strong understanding of HV/MV/LV distribution, protection, control equipment, and SCADA.
• Proven ability to read and apply electrical drawings, design documents, and technical specifications.
• Confident leader capable of guiding contractors and maintaining quality outcomes.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills.
