The intern will apply ecology and wildlife biology skills, gaining exposure to environmental regulations, permit applications, and document preparation while working under supervision on fieldwork and reporting tasks.
Pre‑field duties (about 10% of time) include equipment organization, loading, and reviewing scopes of service with the project manager to ensure clear understanding of responsibilities.
Field duties (about 75% of time) involve collecting digital and spatial data, completing wetland delineation and raptor survey forms, digging soil pits, hiking with a heavy backpack over rough terrain, using binoculars to survey songbirds or raptors, and identifying vegetation and wildlife.
Post‑field duties (about 15% of time) consist of unloading and maintaining equipment, uploading and scanning field data daily, assisting with resource documentation on forms and maps, contributing to report writing, and creating GIS figures for reports.
The role requires physical capability for rugged terrain, including up to 10 miles of hiking daily, lifting 30 to 50 pounds, and may also involve sedentary computer work such as data entry and report preparation.
Minimum qualifications include pursuing or having a Bachelor’s degree in biology, botany, environmental science, ecological restoration, range science, natural resource planning, or a similar discipline, with coursework in plant and wildlife identification, familiarity with tablets, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
The internship runs from April to September 2026, may be extended beyond the field season if mutually agreeable, is a non‑exempt position with overtime compensation, and applicants must submit a resume and writing sample; ERO participates in e‑verify and pre‑employment background screening.
The internship is with ERO Resources Corporation, an environmental consulting firm headquartered in Denver, offering a Natural Resource Intern position for spring/summer 2026 in Denver, paying $17.50 to $22.00 per hour depending on experience and education.
