The HVAC Engineer role involves designing and specifying heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning systems for medium to large‑scale projects, primarily in the Middle East. The engineer will create and review designs, coordinate with architects, electrical engineers, construction contractors and vendors, and ensure that all work meets quality and safety standards. Proficiency in HVAC design software and familiarity with international standards such as ASHRAE are required, with experience in oil & gas, hydrocarbon, and refinery environments considered essential.
Primary responsibilities encompass performing heat‑load, ventilation, pressure‑drop, duct and pipe sizing calculations using HAP, preparing design basis documents, datasheets, technical specifications and bid evaluations, and reviewing vendor submittals for compliance with project and regulatory standards. The role also involves duct system design using the equal‑friction method, developing HVAC control philosophies, producing diagrams and cause‑and‑effect charts, and providing technical guidance to modelers using software such as E3D, S3D and Navisworks. Additionally, the engineer will independently estimate bill of quantities for ducting and related accessories and manage material requisitions and RFQs.
Key technical competencies include deep knowledge of ASHRAE, SMACNA and related standards, as well as hands‑on experience with design tools like Carrier HAP and AutoCAD. The engineer must be skilled in selecting equipment such as chillers, packaged and split systems, air handlers, pumps, fans, and cooling towers, and stay current with the latest engineering and analytical techniques.
Candidates should have 8‑10 years of relevant experience, including at least five years in the oil & gas sector and prior work on FEED and detailed engineering projects in the Middle East; ADNOC experience is a plus. A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized institution is mandatory, and familiarity with modeling platforms like E3D, S3D and Navisworks is desirable. The position is based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
