The Senior Automation Manager (also referred to as Senior Automation Engineer) will design, develop, and implement automation control systems for industrial processes and warehouse distribution equipment. The focus is on maximizing reliability and performance of conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print‑and‑apply systems, and SCADA devices while maintaining the highest safety standards.
In this role you will lead the site’s automation engineering program, set technical goals, mentor engineers and apprentices, and ensure all automation documentation and change‑management practices are governed. You will collaborate with operations, engineering, and support teams to optimise material‑handling systems, drive continuous improvement, and provide advanced troubleshooting and vendor coordination.
- Serve as the site technical expert for automation control systems and lead the automation engineering program.
- Set program goals, delegate tasks, and mentor Automation Engineers and Apprentices to meet client and safety requirements.
- Design, develop, implement, and optimize PLC/PC control systems and software for conveyors, sortation, scanners, cameras, print‑and‑apply, and SCADA devices.
- Maintain and troubleshoot automation equipment, including industrial networks and PLC/PC controllers.
- Govern automation documentation and change‑management processes for the site.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and support teams to improve material handling systems and deliver projects.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, remote assistance, and vendor coordination.
- Monitor system performance, drive continuous‑improvement projects, and communicate technical issues, timelines, and workarounds to stakeholders.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience, plus at least five years of PLC‑controlled automation experience and two years working with robotics work cells and control systems. Leadership experience, strong communication skills, and proficiency with CMMS and multi‑stakeholder maintenance coordination are essential. Preferred candidates hold an advanced degree and have additional expertise in HMI, SCADA, motor‑control technologies, industrial electrical systems, and programming tools such as RSLogix5000 Studio.
- Possess 5+ years PLC‑controlled automation experience with Ladder Logic and structured programming (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, Codesys).
- Have 2+ years experience with robotics work cells, control systems, electrical theory, and automated equipment.
- Demonstrate leadership in directing, training, and mentoring automation engineers.
- Proficient in CMMS usage, troubleshooting, and coordinating maintenance across multiple stakeholders.
- Preferred: advanced degree plus 5+ years professional experience; expertise in HMI, control networks, SCADA, VFDs, motor control, and industrial electrical systems (480V 3‑phase, 110 VAC, 24 VDC).
- Preferred: proficiency with RSLogix5000 Studio, FT View, and other control software; experience in field service engineering, technical training, and remote support for conveyors, sortation, ASRS, and industrial robotics.
