The Millwright will install, assemble, dismantle, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair machinery at a combined-cycle power plant, working on equipment such as heat recovery steam generators, gas and steam turbines, large industrial generators, and other related systems.
Key duties include planning, inspecting, and documenting work scopes; using precision leveling and alignment tools; fitting bearings, aligning gears, and installing motors and belts per blueprints; dismantling and assembling equipment; operating lathes, grinders, and files; constructing foundations; fabricating parts by measuring, cutting, drilling, and welding; and moving large components with cranes, rigging, and hoisting devices while performing preventative maintenance.
- Works with high‑complex precision machines such as ball mills, ID fans, lube coil skids, turbines, conveyors, generators, hydraulic systems, pumps, gears, bearings, compressors, etc.
- Plans, inspects, verifies and documents scope of work
- Uses precision leveling and alignment tools (calipers, squares, micrometers, optical instruments) to measure angles, thicknesses and small distances
- Fits bearings, aligns gears and wheels, attaches motors and connects belts according to manufacturer’s blueprints
- Dismantles machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars and other hand tools
- Assembles and installs equipment such as shafting, conveyors and tram rails
- Bolts, welds, rivets and fastens machinery to foundations or structures using hand and power tools
- Operates engine lathes, grinders and files
- May construct foundations for machinery
- Fabricates and installs parts, equipment and machinery by measuring, cutting, drilling and/or welding
- Turns machine parts to dimensional specifications
- Unloads, inspects, moves and sets equipment into position using cranes, hoists, dollies, rollers and trucks
- Uses rigging and hoisting devices such as chokers, chain falls and come‑alongs to move equipment/materials into place
- Conducts preventative maintenance such as lubrication and repairing worn parts
- No direct reports; may oversee helpers and labor positions, holding positional and expertise authority over them
- Uses arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls and tools
- Occasionally works at heights, climbs ladders, stairways and platforms
- Provides a toolbox with lock, center punch, 12' tape measure, torpedo level, scribe, channel locks, 10" pipe wrench, flat screwdrivers (6" & 8"), magnetic indicator, hacksaw frame, leather gloves, 12 oz ball‑peen hammer, 4 lb hammer, pry bar, slip‑joint pliers, inspection mirror, needle‑nose pliers, tin snip, 18" carpenter level, dial indicator, 0‑1" micrometers, cold chisel, combination wrench set, punch, feeler gauge, putty knife, 6" driver, inside & outside calipers, machinist levels, raincoat, and rubber boots
