The Cost Engineer will lead all cost‑engineering activities within the assigned scope, applying cost methodologies, tools and software such as aPriori, PCS/PCM‑Team Center, DFMA or SEER Tool‑Galorath. The role works proactively with Strategic Buyers, Category Managers, NPI teams and R&D to meet cost‑target objectives and develop sourcing strategies.
Key duties include analysing cost reduction opportunities for new and existing parts, maintaining accurate data on raw materials, processes and labor rates, and evaluating supplier manufacturing processes and quotes to drive optimisation. The engineer will support supplier meetings and negotiations, challenge prices, and ensure end‑to‑end responsibility across internal and external stakeholders while complying with all relevant regulations and Hitachi Energy’s safety and integrity values.
Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, Production or Materials Science engineering (master’s degree is a plus) and have 7‑10 years of experience in a similar industry such as automotive or aerospace. Required expertise includes should‑costing, directional costing, linear performance pricing, benchmarking, and a solid understanding of diverse manufacturing processes. Experience with supplier assessments, workshops, negotiations and exposure to design for manufacturing is advantageous, as is familiarity with supply regions like China, India, Europe and the US.
The role demands strong analytical and communication skills, fluency in English (additional languages are a plus), the ability to coordinate cross‑functional and cross‑geographical teams, and a willingness to travel at least 10 % of the time.
