The role supports the Polyethylene (PE) Business by developing new polymer products that meet customer needs and by supporting existing product lines. It also serves as a liaison between Westlake, toll manufacturers, and external testing or service organizations when required.
Key duties include becoming a technical expert in assigned technology areas, performing experiments to develop products and new technologies, and conducting internal evaluations of commercial and experimental products. The incumbent will lead cross‑functional product teams to solve issues, generate data for product launches and marketing materials, establish product specifications, and assist with laboratory functions. Additional responsibilities involve investigating quality complaints, preparing detailed test run plans and status reports, delivering technical training, supporting special projects, representing Westlake in industry associations, and consulting with outside vendors and customers.
Ideal candidates hold a B.S. degree in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with at least seven years of experience in polymer applications, product development, manufacturing compounds, or technical service. Knowledge of polymer extrusion, processing, characterization, and quality control is preferred, along with strong communication, interpersonal, and computer skills to convey technical information to non‑technical audiences.
The position is primarily performed in an office, laboratory, or control room, requiring frequent sitting, standing, walking, and full use of arms, hands, and fingers. Employees must regularly lift up to 10 lb, frequently lift up to 15 lb, and occasionally lift up to 25 lb, and possess vision abilities including close and distance vision, color discrimination, and depth perception.
The work environment includes normal chemical manufacturing settings with exposure to various hazards, moderate noise levels, and occasional work in operating units requiring personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and flame‑retardant clothing. Travel, including air or automobile, may be required on occasion.
