Design Phase Engineer

Description

Engineers will support the project team in aligning scope, budget, and schedule, ensure construction readiness, and deliver strong financial performance. Duties include managing budgets and schedules, assisting with regulatory approvals, identifying design issues, providing constructability recommendations, integrating BIM/VDC modeling, preparing bid packages, tracking LEED requirements, and maintaining superior customer relations.

• Create and maintain project schedules, hold team accountable for milestones.
• Assist with regulatory approvals and permitting processes.
• Identify and resolve technical design and specification concerns.
• Provide constructability and logistics recommendations during design.
• Integrate BIM/VDC modeling with the construction team.
• Develop project proposals and prepare bid packages and contract manuals.
• Analyze and track LEED requirements.
• Coordinate document and electronic interface processing.
• Foster extraordinary customer relations and gather design feedback.
• Maintain detail orientation to manage multiple project tasks.

Requirements

Mortenson is seeking experienced Design Phase Engineer I and II to translate owner expectations into design drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost documentation. The role requires strong communication, flexibility, integrity, and confidentiality while coordinating with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment. Candidates can apply for either level based on experience, and compensation varies by experience and location.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in construction, civil, architectural engineering or a related field, along with at least two years (Level I) or four years (Level II) of relevant experience. Candidates must demonstrate teamwork, initiative, problem‑solving, leadership, detail orientation, basic knowledge of construction law, intermediate Microsoft Office skills, a professional attitude, and the ability to travel up to 100%.

Benefits

Base pay ranges from $84,100 to $113,500 for Level I and $93,400 to $126,100 for Level II, with higher rates for certain locations.
