Tasks

-Collaborating with records creators, records management staff, information technology personnel, and donors on the preservation and access of public records and manuscript collections -analyze and solve moderately complex problems relating to library methods and procedures; -May coordinate or conduct workshops; -Stay connected! Log in daily to your JobAps Personal Status Board to track your status and check email (including spam/junk folders) for updates and tasks. -Performs original cataloging and name authority work for items of intermediate difficulty including Connecticut documents and monographs; -May serve as liaison to groups and organizations; -Coordinates serials and holdings control; -May train assigned staff; -Provides information referrals for legal, historical, genealogical and other special subject researchers; -Indexes legislative records and other specialized collections; -Providing reference services, including guidance on access to confidential or restricted records in accordance with applicable laws and policies -Operates a medium sized law library; -Processing archival collections, including backlogged accessions, and preparing descriptive tools and finding aids to enhance public access -Leading or assisting in the development of archival procedures, standards, and workflows for the long-term preservation of permanent records, regardless of format -Appraising, transferring, accessioning, arranging, describing, and rehousing archival collections to ensure both intellectual control and physical preservation, including monitoring environmental conditions and facilitation of researcher access

What You Bring

-Experience with Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS) and Encoded Archival Description (EAD) -Referral Questions: This posting may require completion of additional Referral Questions (RQs), which must be completed by the questionnaire’s expiration date. If requested, RQs can be accessed via an email sent to you after the job close date or by visiting your JobAps Personal Status Board (Certification Questionnaires section). -oral and written communication skills; -utilize computer software. -The State Librarian may determine other advanced educational degrees equivalent to the MLS degree based on staffing needs. -Experience interpreting and applying federal and state laws and regulations governing confidentiality and access to government records -Experience with archival project planning and management -professional principles and practices of library science including classification systems, reference sources and techniques, acquisitions, cataloging and filing, bibliographic sources of information and library automation; -Considerable knowledge of -interpersonal skills; -Ability to -Incumbents of this class may be assigned to special projects requiring advanced level professional library duties as directed by the State Librarian. -Experience with processing archival collections -Archival theory, standards, and best practices -Risk mitigation and disaster preparedness for records as part of continuity of operations planning -specialized functional procedures, areas of subject matter and/or principles of library administration; -Experience with an archival collection management system or ArchiveSpace -Answers complex reference questions utilizing reference tools of a specialized nature; -Principles and concepts of information governance across all phases of the records lifecycle
