Principal - Market Modelling Advisory

Description

You will manage end-to-end client delivery, guide modelling teams, and present clear, defensible insights to senior stakeholders across developers, investors, utilities and government agencies.

• Work directly with clients to solve complex market questions, test scenarios and interpret modelling outcomes.
• Contribute to the growth of the advisory practice and collaborate with APAC teams on cross-market projects when required.
• Market-modelling involvement in buy-side or sell-side transactions (commercial DD, scenario testing, market insights).
• Support business development through proposals, relationship building and identifying new opportunities.
• Manage and mentor analysts and modellers, providing technical direction and quality oversight.
• Lead advisory engagements from scoping and hypothesis development through to final recommendations and presentations.
• Oversee electricity market modelling and quantitative analysis, ensuring outputs are robust and commercially relevant.

Requirements

We are seeking an experienced market modeller to lead advisory projects across the Australian energy sector, with a strong focus on electricity market analysis, modelling interpretation, and commercial strategy.

• Degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or quantitative disciplines (preferred but not essential).
• Experience with regulators or system operators (AEMO, TNSPs, state government).
• Strong background in the energy/electricity sector from consulting, market modelling, utilities, government, developers or system operators.
• Proven leadership of advisory-style projects and comfort presenting to senior stakeholders.
• Ability to simplify complex modelling into clear, actionable insights.
• Demonstrated team leadership, coaching and oversight of junior staff.
• Hands-on exposure to market modelling (PLEXOS, proprietary tools, Python) and ability to guide analytical teams.
