Assistant Bridges Engineer

Description

As a Structural Engineer you will be involved in every stage of a project, from inception through to completion, delivering technically sound solutions and managing multi‑discipline infrastructure delivery. You will work within a local technical team, liaise with clients and suppliers, and contribute to bid preparation and health‑and‑safety practices while supporting the development of junior staff.

• Produce technically sound engineering solutions.
• Take ownership of project management and technical delivery from start to finish.
• Prepare designs, calculations, drawings and documentation that meet quality, cost and programme criteria.
• Support and guide junior staff undertaking similar tasks.
• Contribute to the professional development of junior staff and pursue your own development.
• Liaise with clients and suppliers, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
• Work within a local technical team and deliver assigned activities across scheme projects.
• Contribute to bid preparation and work‑winning activities.
• Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
• Apply sustainability practices in engineering.
• Produce solutions that comply with standards such as DMRB, Eurocodes and CIRIA guidance.
• Take ownership of deliverable preparation and ensure reasonable quality checks.
• Use relevant software and analytical tools (e.g., LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
• Manage and communicate project hazards and risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation.
• Coordinate interface management to align deliverables with other disciplines.

Requirements

• Demonstrate strong project management skills for multi‑discipline infrastructure projects.
• Exhibit excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Possess developed experience in the structures field, typically from a graduate engineer role.
• Show commercial awareness in engineering decisions.
• Understand CDM regulations and risk assessment for design and construction.
• Work toward Incorporated or Chartered status with ICE, IStructE or an equivalent professional body.
• Hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant subject or equivalent learning.
