Operating Engineer

Description

The Operating Engineer role in Chicago supports operation, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems on‑site, with a schedule of Tuesday‑Friday 2 PM‑10 PM and Saturday 6 AM‑2 PM, while Sunday and Monday are days off.

• Complete tasks such as painting, pressure washing, lighting maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, water treatment, locksmith work, and general maintenance.
• Maintain the daily work order system (CMMS) and fulfill tenant service requests.
• Perform preventive maintenance and inspection tasks on building systems.
• Support on‑call or emergency response situations as needed.
• Troubleshoot building systems, including electrical, DDC, and pneumatic controls.
• Follow all safety procedures and participate in technical and safety training programs.

Requirements

• Possess 3+ years of experience in repair, maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or carpentry.
• Trade school, union training, military service, or college education is desirable.
• Obtain Universal CFC EPA certification within the first year (assistance provided).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams).
• Able to lift up to 50 lb, use ladders up to 30 ft, and frequently climb, bend, kneel, lift, and drive.
• Demonstrate strong customer service skills.
