Auckland Council is seeking a Programme Manager to lead the delivery of the Combined Plan, including the Auckland Regional Spatial Plan and the replacement Auckland Unitary Plan. The role sits within the Planning and Resource Consents department but requires cross‑organisation work on programme development, budgeting, tracking, contract management, risk registers, and supporting decision‑making through internal and elected steering groups.
You have a solid understanding of regulatory policy development, preferably in local government, strong relationship‑building and communication skills, and the ability to influence senior leaders. You are familiar with integrated risk management, demonstrate empathetic leadership, and can guide teams through multi‑year programmes within financial, political and resource constraints. The role requires proven project‑manager experience in large, complex organisations and an industry‑recognised qualification such as PRINCE2 or PMP, with good knowledge of the New Zealand planning system.
This is a hybrid role with flexible working based in Auckland Central, offering a salary range of $140,650 to $190,290 plus KiwiSaver contributions. The position helps manage the delivery of the Auckland Unitary Plan (AUP) while considering government reform programmes.
You will join a respected team of experts collaborating across the region to support Auckland’s growth. We value diversity, trust and collective contributions, and provide career progression, development opportunities, and a top‑tier in‑house training function. Flexible hybrid working, a range of staff benefits, involvement in high‑profile projects, and networking across Council, central government and the development sector are also included.
