The Market Director will position the firm to capture opportunities, respond to requests for proposals, and lead direct client pursuits while guiding a strategic marketing plan that meets and exceeds financial goals. Responsibilities include expanding professional networks, developing market expertise, and ensuring client satisfaction through coordinated teamwork.
Client duties involve business development activities such as marketing, networking, and maintaining long‑standing client relationships. The leader will interview prospective clients, collaborate on planning and design, and define project scopes to meet client needs.
Project responsibilities cover clear understanding of scope, roles, expectations, and deadlines. The senior subject‑matter expert will resolve challenges, provide project management, design expertise, contract administration, and coordinate efforts with disciplines, clients, and construction partners while improving procedures and standards.
Mentorship includes assisting managers and supervisors in team growth, influencing careers, and sharing knowledge for continuous improvement. The leader will teach, guide, and develop project team members to enhance their professional capabilities.
Leadership tasks involve communicating staffing levels, projecting future staffing needs, participating in recruiting, and managing the market sector budget. The role also includes representing the firm in external organizations to build long‑term talent pipelines.
Business development duties consist of leading efforts based on existing relationships, developing standard proposals, responding to RFQs, setting annual sales goals, and defining marketing plans that enhance sector reputation through advertising, sponsorships, and PR opportunities.
Project engagement includes leading project teams through client management, creative structuring, contract negotiation, programming, concept design, and project oversight. The leader will work with Project Managers on contracts, monitor profitability, address client feedback, and support legal or claim issues as needed.
Candidates must have at least eight years of architecture, engineering, interior design, or landscape architecture experience, with a strong background in business development, project and people management, and excellent communication skills. They must balance time between the Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and other locations and participate in professional organizations.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field, relevant licensure or accreditation, and proficiency with Microsoft Office, Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, and Google Workspace are required. Experience across all project phases and delivery methods is essential.
