The Payroll Supervisor manages the company’s payroll operations across Canada for roughly 800 field and office employees, including hourly unionized, non‑union, and salaried staff paid weekly. The role ensures accurate, timely payroll delivery while maintaining compliance with federal, provincial, and collective‑agreement regulations, and supports system and process improvement initiatives.
Key duties include full‑cycle weekly payroll processing, accurate application of pay rules, overtime, shift premiums, union dues, benefits, and statutory deductions, as well as payroll reconciliations, journal entries, and coordination with Finance for labour costing and general‑ledger accuracy. The supervisor also handles year‑end activities such as T4/RL‑1 preparation, reconciliations, and government filings.
The position collaborates with HR, Finance, and IT to improve integration between payroll, HRIS, time‑tracking, and accounting systems, identify automation opportunities, develop reporting dashboards, and evaluate, select, and implement new payroll solutions. It also leads payroll integration for newly acquired companies, aligning processes, benefits, and system access while providing training and communication.
Leadership responsibilities involve supervising, coaching, and developing payroll team members, fostering a culture of accuracy and accountability. The supervisor partners with HR on employee‑lifecycle events, works with Finance on reporting and budgeting, and builds strong relationships with operations leaders and branch managers to ensure responsive payroll support.

Experience with payroll system implementations, post‑acquisition integration, major payroll platforms, and advanced Excel/data analysis is essential.
