Key responsibilities include leading data center due diligence and multidisciplinary design teams, developing and enforcing multi‑site project and program management plans, and hosting client and stakeholder meetings. The Design Manager will proactively manage and communicate changes, identify problems early, devise creative solutions, and provide regular project updates. Additional duties involve preparing technical and financial proposals for new or modification projects and building trusted relationships with client stakeholders.
AECOM is seeking an experienced Design Manager to work from any AECOM office with some telecommuting and travel. The role oversees colocation and hyper‑scale data center projects from site due diligence, campus planning, and conceptual design through construction documents and administration. Ideal candidates have a background in electrical or mechanical engineering, experience managing data center design, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with at least eight years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree, Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Architecture license, Lean Six Sigma certification, Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Professional status, and at least ten years of experience in colocation or hyper‑scale data center design management. Strong communication, leadership, interpersonal, and presentation skills are required.
