The role involves directing professional consulting firms on tasks such as permit applications, construction plans, site monitoring, and regulatory submittals, and taking responsibility for the final work product. It also requires maintaining relationships with regulators, representing WM at permit meetings, hearings, and community forums, and managing landfill construction projects from plan development through contract administration and quality assurance. Additional responsibilities include budgeting, capacity tracking, site evaluation, cross‑functional collaboration, and participation in acquisition and divestiture reviews.
The position seeks an engineer with extensive experience in the environmental and solid waste sector. The ideal candidate will apply strong problem‑solving and management skills to a diverse portfolio of technical projects, overseeing engineering and construction at solid‑waste disposal facilities. They will also communicate with senior management and mentor junior staff while advancing WM’s leadership in comprehensive waste‑management services.
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field and possess at least five years of relevant experience. Preferred qualifications are not specified but will be considered during evaluation.
The job entails regular use of fine motor coordination for computer and office equipment, and the ability to lift objects weighing less than 30 pounds.
