The Sustaining Manufacturing Engineer II position at the Racine facility focuses on maintaining and advancing the accuracy of Badger’s water meter technology. The role leverages test systems, statistical analysis, and metrology expertise to support production, drive improvements, and enable high‑quality manufacturing. The engineer also serves as the accuracy testing subject‑matter expert for new product development and acts as a critical link between design intent and real‑world performance on the manufacturing floor.
Key responsibilities include troubleshooting production issues, performing timely repairs, and operating accuracy test stands. The engineer designs and conducts product and design verification tests, leads large VA/VE or cost‑improvement projects using lean tools, and initiates engineering change requests and capital asset proposals. Application of statistical process controls, development of financial justifications, research of safe and cost‑effective equipment, and creation of Level III procedures ensure product integrity. The role requires 50 % of the time on the manufacturing floor and 50 % at a desk, with occasional weekend support and up to 10 % travel, including visits to the Mexico site.
Candidates must have at least three years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, industrial, electrical, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Required skills include applying engineering statistics with tools such as Minitab and Excel for SPC, design of experiments, and Gage R&R, and the ability to operate in a manufacturing environment. Preferred qualifications include Lean Six Sigma expertise, metrology experience, background with automated manufacturing controls and computer systems, SQL or basic programming knowledge, and Spanish language proficiency.
