We address over 39,000 customer enquiries every month, plan and deliver all maintenance activities on the network, drive efficiencies and improvements across our systems and roads, and respond to incidents across 4,500 miles of motorways and major A-roads that we manage. All to make sure National Highways customers have safer, smoother, and more reliable journeys.
Operations is at the heart of keeping the strategic road network moving and ensuring our customers get the best possible experience when using our roads.
Here at National Highways, we have an excellent opportunity for a Network Data and Intelligence Analyst to join our team based in either Leeds or Wakefield, working on the strategic road network. You will be working to contribute on timely and effective data, analysis, intelligence/insight and visualisation to support decision-making and achievement of regional business objectives. Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify where analysis can inform decision-making concerning the Strategic Road Network.
- Support intelligent occupancy of the network via modelling traffic management and event impact on customer/economy.
- Develop an understanding of business performance metric calculations and operational levers.
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of a broad range of analytical and data visualisation software systems (including but not limited to data query languages, Power BI, GIS and Excel) and analytical tools used within National Highways.
- Gather, monitor and analyse multiple datasets across safety, traffic, customer and performance to inform and influence collaborative evidence-led decision-making within Operations. Work with team members to draft balanced and objective conclusions and to highlight risks/opportunities.
- Contribute to problem-solving and regional/national analytical projects using analytical capability and experience by applying analytical principles to produce practical and innovative solutions.

- Experience of using structured problem-solving and analytical techniques to quantitatively and qualitatively explore and understand problems.
- A qualification in an analytical, statistical or related discipline or equivalent evidence of experience/aptitude for an analytical role.
- Experience in working with sets of data to extract meaningful insights and communicate information to different audiences effectively and work confidently with others to deliver projects.
- Experience of Microsoft Office products with advanced Excel skills and knowledge of a range of standard analytical tools, Geographic Information Systems (eg. ARC GIS) and Structured Query Languages.
- Good understanding of data and information management principles and best practices.
