Outside Plant Engineer

Description

• Design and plan outside plant facilities for copper and fiber (aerial, buried, conduit) and produce engineering drawings and loop loss calculations.
• Conduct field measurements of poles, conduits, and buried assets to support network design.
• Develop project budgets, track actual costs, and perform quality inspections.
• Prepare and submit permit packages to municipal, county, state, DNR, railroad, and pipeline agencies ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with municipal officials, utilities, and contractors to minimize conflicts and support road, relocation, and expansion projects.
• Update project data in internal tools such as FROGS CAD, Varasset, and SiteTracker.
• Manage SSP contractor activities to achieve timely, budget‑conscious project completion.
• Assist with make‑ready work, joint‑use coordination, site surveys, PUC complaint investigations, and creation of capital projects for cell towers or plant repairs.
• Resolve plant damage requests, handle cable count changes, and address other network service needs.
• Maintain engineering records, draft correspondence, and process departmental documentation.

Requirements

The OSP Engineer role focuses on the design, planning, and implementation of outside plant projects involving copper and fiber networks. The position requires strong engineering, permitting, and construction coordination skills, as well as the ability to manage budgets and ensure compliance with company and industry standards.

• Hold 3–5+ years of hands‑on copper and fiber optic network engineering experience and at least 5 years in OSP engineering, permitting, and record management.
• Demonstrate strong project management, organizational, and communication skills, with proficiency in Frontier tools (FROGS, Varasset, SiteTracker) and willingness to travel locally.
