Sourcing Engineer

Description

In this role the Sourcing Engineer manages and executes projects within the Supply Chain/Purchasing department, focusing on supplier quality, new supplier development, ERP improvements, supply/demand modeling, logistics optimization, and overall supplier quality enhancement.

• Lead purchasing projects, including new supplier development, cost reduction, and process improvement.
• Apply statistical analysis to identify supply‑chain manufacturing improvements.
• Source new and existing products.
• Maintain accurate project schedules and promptly communicate issues to management.
• Conduct cost‑based comparative analyses such as Make‑vs‑Buy and Buy‑vs‑Buy.
• Evaluate supplier capabilities against business demands.
• Perform inventory analysis and manage ERP processes like safety stock, order frequency, and order quantities.
• Collaborate with product development to ensure new products have adequate supply‑chain support.
• Manage the Supplier Quality Issue Tracking system and follow vendor issues from creation to closure.
• Identify product specification discrepancies and work with vendors to resolve them.

Requirements

This position is not remote; occasional domestic and international travel of less than 20 % may be required.

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree, preferably in industrial or mechanical engineering, and have related sourcing experience in manufacturing environments.

• Bachelor’s degree required; industrial or mechanical engineering preferred.
• Related sourcing experience acquiring materials, components, and services is preferred.
• Experience with steel, aluminum, wood, or plastics manufacturing processes is preferred.
• Demonstrated problem‑solving and project‑management experience in operations, manufacturing, or supply‑chain processes.
• Business system (ERP/MRP) experience is a plus.
• Strong spreadsheet and database skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to consult and interact with suppliers and internal teams across product development, manufacturing, marketing, finance, and procurement.
