Mark utilities in the field per standard color codes and project requirements.
Safely expose utilities and document depth, size, material, and horizontal location in accordance with ASCE 38-22.
Assist with utility records research and help reconcile discrepancies between plans and field findings.
Read, interpret, and correlate utility records, as-builts, GIS data, and design plans.
Support or perform soft-dig test holes using a vacuum excavation truck.
Support quality control of field data and ensure accuracy against project control.
Use survey-grade GPS equipment to record locations of utility markings, exposed utilities, test holes, and other field-verified features for integration into project mapping.
Maintain detailed daily field documentation, sketches, and electronic logs.
Coordinate with survey and mapping teams to integrate SUE data into final deliverables.
Designate underground utilities using EM locating equipment, GPR, and other geophysical tools.
Assist with site setup, restoration, and equipment checks.

2+ years of experience in utility locating and/or SUE designating preferred.
3–5+ years in utility locating or SUE roles.
Proficiency with EM locating equipment; familiarity with GPR preferred.
Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
Experience documenting test holes or contributing to CAD/GIS SUE deliverables.
Ability to read and understand utility maps, as-builts, and engineering plans.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Experience operating or assisting with vacuum excavation trucks.
Familiarity with ASCE/UESI 38-02 or 38-22 SUE standards.
Strong willingness to learn new skills such as hydrovac operations, GPS surveying, and SUE workflows.
GPS or survey experience.
Comfortable with field conditions: walking long distances, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in varied weather.
Willingness to travel occasionally and work evenings or nights as project needs arise.
