Description

The Sales Associate assists customers and contractors by providing quotes, product information, and special order assistance both in‑person and over the phone, while maintaining the company’s high standards of customer service. The role generates sales by gathering product needs and design specifications and acting as the liaison between the company and the customer.

• Collect customer product needs and design specifications via phone or in person, acting as liaison between purchasing, technical, production staff, and customers.
• Respond to inquiries about product selection, order placement, pricing, quotations, complaints, delivery and installation scheduling, and provide follow‑ups.
• Initiate outbound calls to generate sales and meet projected sales goals.
• Attend training to enhance sales techniques, product knowledge, and understanding of residential, rural, industrial, and commercial construction.
• Research client needs and industry competition to generate sales opportunities and articulate product features and benefits.
• Perform material take‑offs for single‑ and multi‑family home projects.
• Provide technical assistance to drafting and engineering as required.
• Analyze and size lumber products using appropriate software.
• Coordinate purchase and delivery of special products, obtaining pricing, specifications, usage, and availability information.
• Enter customer orders, pricing, and related data into the computer system.
• Create accurate invoices, work orders, and sales tickets.
• Maintain stock levels on the sales floor and in the stockroom.
• Operate and balance the cash register daily.
• Research credits, returns, and late payments as needed.
• Collaborate with outside sales representatives to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Observe safety procedures, attend safety meetings, and recommend improvements.

Requirements

The position requires working in typical office settings as well as on‑site locations with varying temperature and weather conditions. Employees must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently, occasionally up to 80 pounds, and stand or walk for extended periods throughout the day.

• High School Diploma required; minimum 1–2 years experience in the building‑material industry with extensive product knowledge.
• Strong interpersonal, customer service, and influencing skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
• Knowledge of basic sales techniques, business math, and building‑material applications.
• Attention to detail and familiarity with inventory control.
• Ability to operate computer, calculator, cash register, Microsoft Office Suite, and ERP systems.
• Ability to drive and walk throughout yards, plants, and offices.
