The Pipefitter must understand test piping systems, oxygen and acetylene cutting, basic rigging, pneumatic and electric tools, and leak test‑tubing systems. The role requires learning all safety hazards related to the work and safely operating relevant tools and equipment. Work may be performed in plant operations or construction jobsite settings.
Physical demands include pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lb (occasionally 100 lb), repetitive hand and arm use, hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to work in various postures such as bending, crawling, kneeling, and climbing on ladders or scaffolds. The position may require walking on uneven or muddy surfaces, confined‑space entry, and exposure to adverse weather. Mentally, the Pipefitter must communicate effectively with supervisors, read and write directions, perform basic math calculations, maintain focus amid distractions, make decisions, and attend to detail.
