Test Engineering Manager

Description

• Manage equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and capital improvement planning for test facilities.
• Translate high-level technical or program objectives into clear, actionable steps for the team.
• Define and implement test strategies covering vibration, shock, EMI/EMC, temperature, humidity, and other environmental conditions per applicable industry standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810, 901, 461).
• Serve as the primary technical and leadership point of contact for test execution, performance metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Establish structure and process within the test group, including staff development plans, workload balance, and succession planning.
• Oversee scheduling, resource allocation, and vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery of test milestones.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of test engineers and technicians, driving performance, accountability, and technical excellence.
• Develop and maintain test documentation, reports, and configuration control in accordance with company and customer standards.
• Partner cross-functionally with design, quality, and program management teams to ensure test activities align with project goals and compliance requirements.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of MIL-STD-901, MIL-STD-810, and/or MIL-STD-461 or comparable environmental compliance standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead through influence—balancing empathy with accountability while driving clarity and results.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
• 10+ years of experience in environmental or functional testing of complex systems, including at least 5 years in a formal leadership capacity.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
• U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) eligible for government project work.
• Skilled at translating conceptual or “big-picture” direction into tactical execution plans.
