Consulting Utility Forester (Temporary)

Description

• Organize records, maps, and paperwork for patrol circuits and maintain accurate documentation.
• Review sites for endangered species, sensitive habitats, and incompatible vegetation.
• Safely patrol energy corridors on foot, identify vegetation for pruning, removal, or protection per client standards.
• Conduct tree risk assessments, analyze growth rates, and classify work using ISA pruning techniques and ANSI clearance standards.
• Mark vegetation, prescribe clearance actions, and record findings with digital tools.
• Engage landowners and stakeholders, communicate work plans, and obtain permissions for vegetation work.
• Recommend sustainable vegetation management strategies using IVM principles and audit contractor compliance.
• Investigate tree‑related outages and address customer service or internal compliance issues.
• Coordinate day‑to‑day operations of field employees, track assignments, and perform field visits.
• Report safety concerns, follow AMS safety protocols, and operate vehicles safely.
• Train new employees, participate in storm and emergency response, and perform other duties as assigned.

The position involves extensive field patrol of energy corridors, requiring the ability to work alone in varied weather and terrain, walk up to 10 miles per day, and handle physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, and operating equipment. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, and strong communication, problem‑solving, and multitasking skills.

• Current ISA Certified Arborist or Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) certification.
• Minimum 12 months experience in Utility Vegetation Management.
• Knowledge of tree identification and common computer applications; ability to learn new programs.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Experience with GIS software, Microsoft Suite, and mobile technology (iPhone).
• Ability to work independently outdoors in diverse weather and terrain.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, problem‑solving, multitasking, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Prior forester, arboriculture, or tree‑care work experience.
• Bilingual in Spanish.
• Utility line‑clearance or tree‑trimming experience.
