Join IMEG as an Electrical Engineering Intern in Germantown, MD for a 10‑12‑week program that provides real‑world project experience. You will assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems across various building types, collaborating with experienced engineers and working within project budgets. The internship is designed to build the skills, knowledge, and professional connections needed to launch a career in electrical engineering.
Your principal responsibilities will include designing discipline‑specific electrical systems in accordance with code and IMEG standards, researching commercially available equipment, and supporting client relations while maintaining design notebooks and permanent record documentation. You will coordinate designs and schedules with other disciplines and suppliers, document decisions and client instructions, review project documents for accuracy, prepare addenda, and conduct job‑site observations to ensure contract requirements are met.
The Electrical Engineering team designs lighting, power distribution, low‑voltage, and fire‑alarm systems, providing hands‑on experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and specialized electrical design tools. Interns learn directly from senior engineers, contribute to award‑winning projects such as the Missouri Botanical Garden Visitor Center, and help shape sustainable communities.
Candidates must have completed at least two years toward a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, with prior internship experience in building design consulting preferred. Proficiency with CAD/BIM software, the MS Office Suite, and strong oral and written communication skills are required. This position does not qualify for sponsorship.
