The Critical Environments Operating Engineer supports operation, inspection, and maintenance of critical mechanical building equipment and systems for a multi‑building portfolio in the Raleigh/Durham metro area. The position is based in Durham, NC, with on‑site shifts of two 36‑hour weeks and two 48‑hour weeks each month, working Thursday‑Saturday and every other Wednesday from 7 am to 7 pm. Pay ranges from $33.61 to $37.98 per hour and includes perks such as 3‑ and 4‑day work weeks, a large engineering team, uniforms, tools, and access to diverse equipment.
The Data Center Operations Engineer is responsible for operating and maintaining critical data‑center infrastructure, including UPS, MV electrical systems, generators, and cooling equipment. Day‑to‑day duties involve preventive maintenance, monitoring of fire/life safety, HVAC, chillers, CRAC/CRAH, plumbing, controls, and emergency backup power systems to achieve 100 % uptime. The role also requires recording equipment readings, analyzing system performance, and taking corrective action when needed.
The position demands frequent walking, climbing, bending, lifting at least 50 lb, and working at heights up to 30 ft, as well as navigating rooftops and large campus settings. Flexibility is essential; employees must work holidays, weekends, on‑call emergencies, and be willing to cover PTO shifts across all schedules.
Applicants need a high school diploma or GED, two years of hands‑on experience with critical infrastructure, and one year with UPS, generators, switchgear, or chiller plants, along with a valid driver’s license and EPA 608 certification.
