Work in partnership with HR Learning and Development to design and deliver scalable, fit-for-purpose GIS learning materials, including e-learning modules and reference guides
Reporting to the Head of Information Management and Data Analytics within a matrix structure, the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist’s primary responsibility is to establish and lead a centralised GIS service within DPS, designed to support the wider UK & Ireland Division. This role involves the direct development, management, and dissemination of high-quality geospatial data and technical content, collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs) to create standardised GIS methods, procedures, and secure data management processes. The GIS Specialist will ensure that all geospatial resources and documentation enable digital construction capabilities, remain accurate, relevant, and current, and are easily accessible to all stakeholders across the Division.
Ensure all GIS content and documentation complies with relevant legislation, industry standards, and BAM policies and procedures
Manage the transition and maintenance of the DPS digital brand, ensuring consistency and clarity in all GIS communications
Build and sustain effective working relationships with Business Unit Management Teams, key clients, and their representatives, acting as a trusted GIS advisor
The position will involve a mixture of working from home and working out of any regional office in the UK and Ireland.
Foster engagement in GIS content creation by cultivating a culture of continuous learning, growth, and development, prioritising performance, inclusion, safety, and wellbeing
Lead the process for capturing, structuring, and documenting geospatial knowledge and GIS best practice within the DPS function, serving the UK & Ireland Division
Understand and respond to stakeholder requirements, adapting GIS content strategies to ensure evolving business needs are met
Support the development and delivery of geospatial knowledge to enable teams and individuals to achieve and exceed their service delivery objectives
Champion a culture of continuous improvement and high-quality GIS delivery
Support DPS Management in planning and delivering GIS-focused events that enhance team learning and knowledge sharing
Oversee the curation, updating, and quality assurance of all GIS content and knowledge assets (and associated platforms)
Promote the sharing and accessibility of GIS documentation and resources across DPS and the wider business
Competencies, Mindset and Culture
Experience with remote sensing data acquisition and interpretation, including the use of satellite imagery, aerial photography, and UAV (drone) data for construction and environmental mapping applications
Demonstrate financial and resource awareness, supporting efficiency and predictability in GIS content creation
Knowledge of data security and privacy best practices in GIS, ensuring compliance with legal and organisational standards for geospatial information management
Proficient in spatial database management, including experience with SQL, PostGIS, or similar technologies for maintaining, querying, and analysing large geospatial datasets
Knowledge of the construction technology sector, emerging digital solutions, and GIS applications; familiar with integrating GIS with BIM (Building Information Modelling) and other construction management systems
You will be required to travel across the UK and Ireland overseeing the creation of a centralised GIS service for the UK & Ireland Division
Advanced skills in spatial data analysis, geoprocessing, and visualisation techniques, including the use of Python, ModelBuilder, or other scripting tools for automating GIS tasks.
At least 3 years’ experience in a GIS specialist or related technical role. Expert use of tools like ArcGIS, QGIS, or MapInfo.
Competent in cartographic design and map production, ensuring clear, accurate, and aesthetically effective visual representations of spatial data for reports, presentations, and decision-making
Demonstrable experience in designing, managing, and delivering complex GIS learning and knowledge events.
