The Combination Welder is responsible for welding, fabricating, and assisting pipe fitters in installing various industrial piping systems, including supports, racks, and other materials. The role involves working on a range of pipe sizes and grades, following welding procedures, and ensuring quality installation.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical manuals
- Perform weld repairs and fabricate pipe supports, racks, and related components
- Select equipment, plan layouts, and apply appropriate welding procedures
- Secure components with bolts, clamps, and tack welds before welding
- Set up and operate arc, gas‑shielded, and submerged arc welding equipment
- Identify required equipment, safety risks, and job processes
- Assist pipe fitters with installation, preparation, and fabrication tasks

The position requires at least four years of industrial pipe welding experience, proficiency in 2G, 4G, and 6G positions, and the ability to perform both stick and TIG welding on pipe. Candidates must hold a current Zachry welding certification (or pass a test), possess the necessary tools at start, have reliable transportation, and be able to assist pipe fitters with installation tasks.
Physical demands include extensive standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lb, and working at heights or on ladders while wearing required PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, and respiratory protection.
- Weld in 2G, 4G, and 6G positions using stick and TIG techniques
- Minimum 4 years industrial pipe welding experience (sizes 40, 80, 160)
- Current Zachry welding certification or pass a weld test
- Knowledge of metal characteristics (carbon steel, stainless, chrome) and suitable welding processes
- Reliable transportation and ability to work at heights and lift up to 50 lb
- Preferred: Current or former Zachry employee, experience with Zachry Industrial, or chemical plant construction projects
- Preferred: Experience as an industrial pipe fitter
