The company is hiring Field Archaeologists, Senior Field Archaeologists and Principal Archaeologists on both permanent and casual contracts. Ongoing fieldwork is planned across the UK, including North Wales, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, and permanent staff are expected to adopt a hybrid work pattern when not on site. Casual staff will be site‑based, and all roles require at least three months of commercial archaeology site experience.
Senior and Principal Archaeologists will supervise small to large teams, lead projects of varying complexity, and support report writing for both smaller and larger scale deliverables. Candidates should be comfortable with on‑site recording, possess experience with both paper‑based and digital systems, and be willing to develop proficiency in Harris Matrix software and GIS/GPS equipment. Strong organisational, problem‑solving and leadership skills are essential for managing plant operations and motivating teams in challenging outdoor conditions.
Applicants must hold a degree in Archaeology (or a related discipline), a full clean driving licence and access to a car, and have practical experience on archaeological sites. CIfA membership at PCIfA or ACIfA level is highly advantageous. Flexibility for travel and varied working hours across the UK is required, as projects are often located away from the employee’s home base.
SLR offers an excellent subsistence package, travel allowance, single‑occupancy accommodation and 1.5 × pay/TOIL for work performed between 10 pm and 6 am. Employees also benefit from a competitive salary, company pension, comprehensive healthcare, travel and life insurance, 25 days of annual leave plus flexible bank holidays, and a hybrid, agile working model that supports work‑life balance.
