Architecture Principal-in-Charge / Vice President - Commercial

• Learn about the services that Huitt-Zollars offers, to be able to interface effectively with clients.
• Successfully and consistently functions as Lead Principal-in-Charge for their designated Practice Area in geographic market.
• Identifies Talent: Actively maintaining awareness of internal and external talent, current abilities, and hiring needs.
• Train/mentor staff and review work for quality assurance.
• Direct a staff with varied levels of experience and expertise.
• Prepare project work plan and schedule for projects.
• Provide technically sound designs for our clients.
• Ensure the Project Manager and/or Project Teams have the resources necessary to meet scheduling and budget commitments on projects.
• Successfully contributes to the overall profitability and financial performance on projects.
• Initiate and lead kickoff calls or high-level design calls with client in addition to preparing monthly forecasting and client cost estimates when appropriate.
• Consistently deliver proactive communication with clients. When client issues arise, address or expeditiously escalate to discipline lead
• Provide direction on market trends and help shape business planning.
• Participate in Industry Organizations.
• Proactively works with PM to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance. Reviews progress with PM at least monthly (including & completes vs. % spent) and that PM is adhering to weekly rhythm.
• Grow the Commercial Practice group.
• Leverage local knowledge, contacts while conducting market research.
• Executes Strategy: Ensuring that people remain focused on accomplishing strategic goals by thoughtfully planning tasks and overcoming obstacles.
• Ensure quality controls measures are being adhered to on project delivery.
• Establish and grow a Commercial practice in the Dallas Region.
• Develop relationships with clients that allows for ease in communications and problem solving
• Become familiar with the National Commercial Staff through interactions that could include personal interviews, discussions and trips to other Commercial Practice offices.
• Sharing Information: Conveying up-to date information in the most efficient and useful manner to the appropriate stakeholders.
• Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
• Troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions, effectively implement and document for internal and external stakeholders
• Strategic planning of Commercial Practice marketing.
• Manage the preparation of design and construction drawings.
• Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client). Verifies client satisfaction routinely and shares feedback with team.
• Recruit Staff for work region wide.
• Identify & Lead Pursuits (Prime or Sub).
• Support growth targets of 10% per year.
• Identify contacts/clients/opportunities for new work.
• Responsible for assigned portion of office sales goals. Function as a Lead Principal-in-charge and as a Senior Project Manager on key projects.
• Interface daily with clients, develop proposals, negotiate scopes and fees, ensure timely billing and collections and prepare change orders.
• Fosters a Learning Culture: Creating an inspiring and engaging atmosphere where people feel motivated to grow, experiment, and learn new skills.
• Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.
• Oversees staff deliverables and production assigned to their projects to ensure client, legal, and company requirements are met.

Requirements

• Year 5+: BD/Marketing Time 40%, Operations 20%, Project Time 40%
• Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports
• Must be a registered Architect in Texas (or have a clear path to registration via reciprocity) with a minimum of 15 years of experience
• Ability to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
• Willingness/ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely
• B-Arch or M-Arch (preferred) in Architecture
• The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
• Solid leadership and management skills, self-motivated, and possess a strong ability to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems
• Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
• Ability to train/mentor staff and review work for quality assurance
• Competent, knowledgeable, service leader in the market(s) they service.
• Critical Thinking: Analyzing problems and solutions by evaluating the quality of the information available from different sources and avoiding decision-making bias.
• Highly organized and detail oriented
• Knowledge of Revit, and supporting modeling, design and presentation software (Enscape, Rhino, Lumion, etc.) are all a plus
