As a senior design engineer you will be responsible for designing a wide range of complex transmission and driveline components. You will join the design team and work closely with the Chief Designer, taking ownership of a specific mechanical design system as identified by the Chief Designer.
Your duties include mechanical design from concept through definitive and detail phases, performing 3D modelling, basic stress calculations, FMEAs, 2D layouts, detailing, and tolerance stacks. You will collaborate with manufacturing and process engineers to ensure designs are suitable for manufacture and assembly, report progress to project management, create technical reports, highlight risks, and present designs at design reviews.
You will liaise with suppliers, other Ricardo departments, and customers to secure required information and address requests promptly. All design files and documentation must be kept up to date and stored according to department procedures.
The position requires a degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent experience) and extensive experience as a design engineer, particularly in transmission and driveline design. Proficiency in CATIA V5, PLM (PTC Windchill), GD&T, and the ability to produce high‑quality technical drawings are essential, along with strong communication and proactive problem‑solving skills.
Additional expectations include fluent English communication, self‑motivation, teamwork, effective problem solving, ability to meet tight deadlines, and the capability to work with minimal supervision.
